Spring noise

When I turn real real sharp with my 5ver I get a pop or a bang sound. I am thinking it is the spring shackle bushings, but want someone ses opinion. There are no grease zeros on them. My guess is the original bushing, that I assume is rubber is long gone

I installed a new suspension system and it came with wet bolts. No more squeaks.

@local150, be sure to confirm the capacity on any new system you install. There are some threads here about the wet bolts breaking from being overloaded.

I do not know details but do remember reading about some issues. I am not suing you can’t do it but just be very thorough when researching.

I replaced my factory garbage leaf springs and hangers with aftermarket stuff including leafs by an American manufacturer out of Fontana, CA called Triangle. Major improvement for me. I felt like I was towing a bounce house before the change.

Thanks for the reply, probably wontdo anything until spring. I am in north western Illinois usually heading for Florida about now but am not going because of Covid now. That popping banging is not good I am sure. So will research it thoroughly before tackling

Two months ago I towed my triple-axel to Michigan and back. 5,500 miles. No issues with the wet bolts.

Wet bolts

I installed the wet bolt kit on my 3950. For the most part I love it except for the rears. They broke several times so the two rearmost hangers have grade 8 bolts in them for two seasons and no more issues. I think it was from the extreme stress that third axle is under when making sharp turns. I also had to weld new spring hangers on as their holes were elongated from the broken bolts. To add a small insurance policy I welded a small piece of steel front and back side of the hanger so that IF the bolts ever were to break again, the springs could not hop out of their location ruining tires from being so skewed.

As far as the bushings go the originals in mine were plastic and worn thru after the first season we owned it. They were replaced with the bronze ones that came with the wet bolts.

The wet bolts are actually easy to install. There are a couple of threads on here detailing it. Get a ball joint press - makes it really easy.

I would have first thought about the hitch ball going dry. But the shackle bushings could be smart bet.
Are they well used with a lot of hard miles?

Over 5000 miles last year alone and many seasons now on lovely Michigan Roads so I would say yes to both used and hard miles.

I grease them every spring and no issues.
