Thinking you have an ammonia leak that will eventually be the demise of your cold beer.

Propane also smells like rotten eggs. I would have your fridge serviced right away.

Gas leak

You have a gas leak.

It can be explosive.

Get it fixed immediately. Turn the gas to the frig off until then.

The rotten egg smell is added to propane and natural gas to make the otherwise odorless gas noticeable when there is a leak. You noticed.

I don't believe it is propane leaking,, I think it is ammonia smell, could a lot of frost in freezer cause this

The ammonia smell may come from cleaning solutions you wife used to clean your refrigerator. It cannot be from accumulation of ice on the cooling system. More likely it comes from a refrigerant leak in the cooling system. If so, it is also dangerous. There are quite a few Utube videos of TT's going up in smoke for a total loss caused by the heater type refrigerators.

The only time you smell it is when you open the door you smell it briefly
