First trip out this season and had a few problems

Well, we took our 5th wheel out for the first time this season. Had a few issues that will need to be addressed, one of which was I found water in the window sill of a window that doesn't even open. So I'm guessing I'll have to simply reseal that window, or add more sealant to it, so hopefully it'll be an easy quick fix.

The other issue that I need to find out what my options are, are related to the sewer system.

We were there two days, and I didn't hook up to the sewer while we were there, instead waiting until we were ready to leave to quickly hook up and dump before hitting the road. Well, upon unscrewing the sewer cap, I was greeted with a bunch of sewer water all over me and the ground (it was blue tinted from the detergent, so I'm guessing its the black tank)! I had checked before I opened the cap to make sure all the valves were closed and they were, but obviously there is a slow leak that is allowing liquid to pass by and fill the tube while we were camping.

So how does one go about fixing this?

West,

I just had the dealer replace two of my waste gate valves under warranty. My problem was I broke the cable. I did use the twist on valve for several months until I could get it back to the dealer. It worked great at keeping the waste were it doesn't belong. Off my hands!!!

Before you decide to replace a valve, check to see if the cable is operating freely. You should be able to take down the basement wall to get a visual. My problem was about half of the 72" cable was tightly wrapped several times around the supply lines before it dropped into the underbelly down to the gate. This created a lot of tension that ultimately caused the cable to break.

If yours is wrapped the same you might be able to save it. Simply remove the handle and retaining nut and back feed it to untangle the cable to were it has one long curved sweeping arch down to the gate. Even if this doesn't work you'll at least have an idea as to how to install a new cable kit with valve.

You might also consider using a FLEX MEND - TRAP FLAP to access the valve instead of dropping the underbelly.

There is a very good post by pirate about installing http://www.dutchmenowners.org/forums...lves-2682.html that will walk you through the replacement process.

Just like Horned Toad, I added the Twist-ON waste Valve to both of my Waste tanks...My valves are way up, so when I open, there was always a little waste or water, so I added the Twist-on valve and don't have any water or waste

Thanks everyone for the help! I ordered the Twist-on waste valve for now, and will drop the basement wall later this summer once the weather gets nicer and see whats going on.
