5th wheel clearence

I had a 2012 silverado extended cab with 6 1/2 box and with this I had no problems with the rv hitting the truck cab. Today I bought a 2018 silverado with a crew cab and 6 1/2 ft box also. I just woke up thinking about this, am I going to still have enough clearance from the cab with this truck. Sick to my stomach suddenly. Never give this a thought. Both are 1500 series

I would think clearance would be the same so long as the box is exactly the same. Just a guess. As the others commented above I am curious how your half ton (both old and new) can handle a fifth wheel but I have read there are some much smaller and lighter 5ers these days.

Iam way below weight limitations, it is primarily used close to home, where the area is flat, not much for hills. I have driven a semi a couple million miles hauling, permitted loads, over width, over weight and at times way over length, and have never had a blemish in my career. I drive with a brain, of which many don't, I would know way endanger other motorists. I feel safe doing it. Do I drive 70 mph, hell no, do I drive 65, again hell no. My dad taught me when I was young, and his words I will never forget. He said son no matter what you are pulling treat it always as a freight hauling vehicle. He said don't think it will stop on a dime cause it won't, reme.ber those things to this day and so far it has worked. One day I was working on a road project and long story short, I was knocked off a piece of equipment and nearly killed by a 84 year old driving a 34 foot motor home and pulling a car. Thats safe ???

I've got a 2018 Voltage model 2951. Its 30' front to back. I weighed it and it weights 11,000 lbs. empty. I did tow it for a couple years with my 2500HD until last year I bought a 3500HD dually. My 3/4 ton towed it well but it was maxed out if I loaded it wit Harley and stuff. I don't think you will be legal with a 1500. If you have an incident your insurance might get huffy. The tongue weight is high for a half ton.
I just googled Silverado and its says max payload 1,200 to 2,000 max payload. Your tongue weight could be over that, Towing capacities 6,000 lbs. I wouldn't tow it with a 1500.

It must be a very small fiver. I’ve heard rumors they exist. You want to be very careful about your “numbers”. I’m worried about stopping ability,not pulling. Bigger is better.

Hmm must be a really small 5th wheel for a non HDPP F-150 to be able to tow it. Max 5th wheel GVWR for the 1500 is 9500 pounds. Even at just 15% Pin, that is 1425 pounds pin, plus 200 for the average hitch, 1625 pounds, but I doubt it can even come close to 15%, more like 18-20%. Are you sure you have 2100 pounds payload, or just ignore GVWR, FGAWR, and RGAWR?

Other than the HDPP, and I have reservations on even that, just because it say's it could, doesn't really mean it should.
