5th wheel

the hitch on my 5th wheel has some slop in it. The piece that locks the pin in place has some wear, could that be built up a little with some weld ?

@Local150. If it were me I would not mess around with something as potentially dangerous as a hitch, but admittedly I am no expert on the subject.

Have you priced replacing the hitch or even the head if possible?

Good luck.

Replace it if it is worn, however most 5th wheels have a bit of slop in them when first starting.

That little bit of slop is often called chucking and could in fact be normal for your hitch but if it is getting worse or didn’t exist before then I would be very concerned.

If a king pin comes loose while towing it could be really bad, even deadly.

Good luck.

If it isn’t getting worse then you are probably (hopefully [emoji3]) fine.

No doubt.
I would be buying a new one if mine was in that shape.

Your hitch

I would replace the worn parts. Most company’s sell replacement parts.
