White/Greasy Substance in Fresh Water Tank

I am having problems with my water pump and had an RV mechanic look at it. Come to find out, there is a white/grease like substance in our fresh water tank that is plugging up the intake hose and has plugged the drain hose completely. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to clean it out or the Big Question, what is that substance? Has anyone ever heard of finding this mystery white/greasy goo in a fresh water tank? And do you suggest replacing the whole tank or try to some how flush that stuff out? This is a new TT for me and had only 1 previous owner. I always flush the system out every month and use filtered city water to fill it. I have drank the water from the TT and it doesn't have any strange taste or have a strange oder, and I haven't had any ill affects. Anyways, I hope someone has an answer or suggestion. cold it be something like baking soda mixture? I've heard of people who put baking soda into their tanks to "purify" them!

Don't know if this will help, but I had a similar experience in Arizona with a water filter and tank that had not been used for 6 months. The tank had not been drained. The minerals in the water created a white jelly like substance that plugged the filter. Had to throw the filter away and sanitized the tank and flushed it several times using swimming pool disinfectant.

To my wonderful extended RV family. Thank you all for your responses. After a lot of thinking and hair pulling, I pulled my tank and cleaned the heck out of it. That was quite the chore considering my TT has a sealed underbelly and I have never done this before. My wife wants a new tank, so I called a half dozen places before I finally found a person to talk to and ordered a new tank. In the mean time I put the old one back in case the new one doesn't arrive before our trip from Virginia to Montana.

After some research, I found the original owners had well water and never treated, or emptied the tank since they had installed an aftermarket filter between the tank and pump. This is why I think the slime was growing in the tank. I have learned a lot from you all and I will be bleaching my system multiple times a year.
