What do you do with your spring bars...

...when you're not using them?

I made some caps from 1 1/2" ABS pipe which fit over the greasy end. I put caps on the pipe and drilled a hole into the middle of the cap where I put an eye bolt. I then use a bungee cord to connect the cap to the end of the spring bar chains which also serves to keep the chains under control.

Now I can put them into the truck box without getting grease all over everything or risk getting sand and grit in the grease.

Great idea! I would also appreciate pictures if possible.

Re: What do you do with your spring bars...

Here you go! Pretty simple to make and cheap too! The bungee pulls the cap at an angle so they don't fall off.

Should still work, the bungee would hold it when you connect to the chains.

No chains either. It's an Equal-i-zer hitch. The ends of the bars don't really get greasy. It's the part of the bar that rides on the L bracket, about a foot in from the end...

I do pretty much the same thing only with line instead of bungee cord. I also keep these bars, plus the friction brake, in an old chair bag from a folding chair that has long since been thrown out. It just keeps thing orderly in the truck bed and easier to get it all out when bed of truck needs to be used for something else.

Hmmmmm.... Seems to me that I have an old chair bag lying around in the basement. Might just have to give this one a try. Thanks!

That's a good idea to add to mine! I find the caps keep the grease clean when I have the bars on the ground while I'm getting things hitched up. I'll go look for a suitable bag to keep them in in the truck and in my shop at home.

Re: What do you do with your spring bars...

I know i'm a new guy but i did'nt even know you had to grease the Bars. Just thought it was the Ball. I know it looks nice, but why do they Chrome plate the Ball Hitch when all it does is peel off, even when Greased... :?:

Note in one of the pictures above there is a label that states "Grease bars daily" Not all bars are the same so check yours. I don't grease my ball though many people do.

Re: What do you do with your spring bars...

Look familiar...just made them...Went to Home Depot... (Geeze I love that store) cost me over $30.00 CD when I left the store...bought 2 new led flashlights ( can't have too many Led flashlights when your camping 20 lumen) have no idea what a lumen is ) 30 Micro-fabric clothes they were on sale ( (have no idea what I will use them for but they were on sale) Coffee at Timmy's on the way to and from the Depot $5.00 bucks CD.

Oh ya the pipe and ends etc total around $6.00 bucks CD...

Thanks to the Wanderer/Gordon for posting this. Easy to do and really slick.

Isn't a lumen just a little brighter than a henway?
