Slide out weight issue

Hello all!, my wife and I would like to replace the 60" loveseat that jack knifes into a bed. The futon we would like to replace it with weighs 45lbs more than the current love seat, which sits on the slide. Will this extra weight cause a problem?

Slide out weight issue

This is a guess so might not be worth much but I suspect you would be safe as the slide out itself would be pretty heavy. My two large slides (kitchen and sofa) appear to have the same sized motor and I bet they are more than 40 pounds different in weight. However, given how Dutchmen tends to do things as cheaply as possible the slide might already weigh more than the rated capacity of the motor!

I guess you should probably wait for a better answer. [emoji3] Alternatively, you could find a model number on the motor and see if you can find specs somewhere.

Good luck

I can't imagine 40lbs difference in furniture matters. People store all kinds of things on their slideouts when they travel and extend. It certainly won't matter once they are out.

Certainly agree with Rusty that it won’t matter once it is out because those sofas can handle lots of body weight. Rusty also makes a good point about people storing stuff on the slides too. I know we often put a ton of stuff on our sofa when we head out and I can’t say we remove any of it before we extend the slide.

I replaced my original sofa with blow up bed and put in a futon about 5 years ago, the futon probably weighed about 40 lbs heavier, we also store all our bottled water and multiple 24s of adult drinks under the futon. I can promise we never remove them prior to opening or closing the slide. 5 years and so far no problem.
