shower floor

Noticed that the shower floor seemed soft around the drain, and the water wasn't emptying out all the way also. Removed the plate and found the the flooring for the shower doesn't seem to go beyond the drain. Is this normal?

I have a Denali and my shower is the same, very soft to step on, I wonder how long it will last.

Sometimes they cut a big hole at the end of the tub where the drain goes through, makes it easier for the blind installers.

I have reinforced a few over the years with a a couple of 2x4's with some styrofoam cushioning on top.
