Length of trailer question

On our 261bhs I measured inside length from front wall to back and it measured 28' 5 inches. Where does the 26 come from. Also, when you reserve a spot in a campground and they ask you what length of TT you have do you measure from spare tire to front of hitch or just length of body.

I am pretty sure those numbers indicate roughly the square footage of your trailer, not the length. Ie. yours would be 261 square feet. Does that make sense in your case? Re the length for campsites, it would normally be the length required to park it so it would include the hitch and bumper.

That makes sense. Thanks for the reply on campsite length.

the square feet doesn't add up. 28.5 (i rounded off the half foot) times lets say 8 feet wide is 228 sq ft not 261. My camper is a 3200 but its actually 35' 10". It is a 5er though and the part over the truck for some reason isnt included. Your TT the front tongue is usually not in the length unless its overall length. I dont know where 261 comes from either.

I just re-measured my 261. From the outside back of coach to the front of coach is 28' to where the bedroom ends. Maybe 5 or 6 inches more because of front swoop. No spare or bumper or hitch included.

Our 240RK is 24 feet with overall length of 27'6". We have to use the total rig length when boarding the ferry but I call it a 24 footer for campgrounds.

For campground length I always round a little. I just say 40 ft for ours. At one time I told the exact length and the ite was relly short.

Aerolite lists mine as 28' 9". I thought that was the overall length. Wasn't until I bought it and got it home and measured that I found out that it was the lenght of the box. It is 32' from spare to tip of the tongue.

In all the above discussion I didn't see any reference to the square footage effect of slides ....... just another factor in the mystery of those numbers!

Our 284 is exactly 28' 4" from front of box to back of box. Include the hitch and spare and I get 32' 6" and I usually go by 32' when getting a campsite.

My 3850 RL was posted on Dutchmen Infinity's web site as 38 and a half feet long (and still is). I measured it when I purchased it and found it to measure 39'10". I measured from tip of nose cone to rear of ladder.

In one of the RV dealer web sites I have noticed that they have measured it correctly as I did.

Wake up Dutchmen!

I think the model numbers are just something that the marketing gurus make up.

My Airstream was a 28' Safari. That was nose to tail, the interior of the coach was 25'.

The bigger the number the better.

My Denali 289RK is 28ft 9 inches and the overall lenth is 33 ft 9 inches thus the 289 and the RK means Rear Kitchen.

I always give the full length of the trailer from the tip of the hitch to the rear of the bumper when reserving campsites. By the way, my CTS 262 BH: has an overall outside box length of 29 feet. From stem to Stern she's 32.5.
