Interior wall board

I have a couple of questions about my new Aspen Trail 25bhle
1. What is the interior wall board (paneling) called?
2. Since it is also in the shower and somewhat waterproof, how would you tell if you had a leak and it was getting wet from the other side?

Thanks, already enjoy this site it as helped me learn a lot.

1. I always called it Luan. (From the interweb) "The term typically refers to a plywood panel 1/4 or, less commonly, 1/8 inch thick."

2. Some how I doubt it is in the shower. Definitely not water proof.

The shower should have some plastic material. The bathroom does have something like Luan, maybe a more water resistant type.

I am sure you will get more precise replies

Enjoy your trailer!

Luan=underlayment...... same-o same-o.

Older trailers did (and maybe some newer ones still do?) use Luan throughout entire camper including shower area. Of course, the shower area stuff was covered with a "contact paper" type plastic wall covering that usually matched the wall paper.

If you need to replace the bathroom area I would try contacting Treckwood RV supply, I bet the might have some sheets in stock.

I hate auto correct..... not sure if treckwood is spelled right or not now.

What you have is a 3/16 plywood paneling covered with decorative vinyl. Normally it is used in the bathroom with a tub, not a shower. You will know if water is behind it because the covering will start to bubble and peel. Luan is a type of mahogany wood used in underlayment because it's cheap.

that is what I thought, think I will get some frp and moulding to put on the wall as I have in my house. It just does not seem that the stuff will last. Thanks for all the replies.

I suspect they use that stuff for lowering the overall weight of the RV. I think you can purchase something like it at LOWES or HD! They have a water resistant wall board that has a shiny exterior that is used for cheap repair in rental houses... I believe it's .090 FRP!
