Hub cap removal

How the heck do I get this hub cap off?!? It has to come off. There’s no way a lug wrench is getting in between it and the nuts.

Headed out on a 1200 mile trip next month. Just don’t want any surprises on the road . . . or as few as possible. 😂

If it's like mine, it inserts from the inside of the wheel. You have to take off the wheel to get the cap off. Mine also has a rubber cap on the end so I can get to the grease fitting to top off the bearing grease.

Yep! Sounds like the same thing. Well how do you get a socket over the nut? There doesn’t seem to be room, at least not with a 4-way.

Thin wall socket with 6" extension maybe? The lugs on my wheels don't seem to be as close to the hub as your's appear to be.

The four ways have large sockets on them for strength. A thin wall socket will be too thin to break the nuts loose. Probably break the socket before the lug nut.

The next option is to try and fit an impact wrench socket on it. Most automotive stores will let you return it if it doesn't fit.

It'll fit after you pound it on with a hammer.

I have worked construction most of my life if it don't fit... get a bigger hammer!

I still own a couple of 20# sledgehammers.
