Equal i zer Hitch

Greetings, all! Just made the move from the Jayco forum to here since picking up a new Kodiak 24resl yesterday. Looking forward to getting acquainted.

Just a short note concerning a used Equal I Zer (10,000lb) hitch I piced up on Craigslist. I didn't think you could damage a hitch....but this one had something drastically wrong with it. On level ground, one bar would hold all the tension while the other just flopped around loose. The dealer's tech called the manufacturer and explained the situation. The dealer was instructed to take the center unit off of a new hitch and put it on mine! They wanted to see what had happened to the old one.

I'm a happy camper! New Equal I Zer for $350!!

Welcome! I use the 10,000 Equal-i-zer too and love it so far. Had it since 2004...

We used a 12,000 # Equal-i-zer on two different trailers with great success. We even did some testing on the Sway Bracket Jacket for the company that makes the Equal-i-zer(Progress Mfg.).
The Sway Bracket Jacket was designed to quiet the bars, while moving on the "L" brackets.

Welcome to the forum Hut, I use the Equal-i-zer (10,000lb) hitch and am very happy with it. Would be interested in knowing what the findings are from the manufacturer if they get back with you.

Thanks for the welcome, y'all! I enjoy kicking around on here.

This is my second Equal-i-zer. I've bought both of them used. Love the simplicity!

Same here, but my first one was new.
I checked CL(craigslist) about an hour ago and scored a nice used 10,000 Lb. Equal-i-zer for $150.

Sorry, forgot to welcome you earlier, so here it goes. WELCOME to the Dutchmen Owners site.

I've been checking CL for months now and never find a 10,000 pounder ~ just much lighter ones!

Welcome, Hut.

Since we're on the topic of weight distribution hitches, I wonder if anybody has used a scale (like zero to 10,000 pounds) on the wheels of the trailer and tow vehicle to see how much difference one of these hitches makes?

I'm more interested in how much load is transferred to the trailer.

That's a good question. I wonder if anyone has actually done this?

Decades ago Eaz-Lift did this demo. They put so much tension on the equalizer bars, they were able to remove the rear wheels on a Olds Toronado and drive the car and trailer with the rear of the Olds suspended in the air.

It was quite an adverting piece, but it showed that a weight distributing hitch had a lot of potential.

Weight Distribution transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer. This even distribution of weight results in a smooth, level ride, as well as the ability to tow at the maximum capacity of your hitch.

Using a CAT scale will answer your question.

One picture is worth a thousand words. Thanks for including the photo. Now I'm wondering how to crank up my hitch?

I was just wondering if anyone has done that (weighing before and after)?

I'm very curious
