Bumper sewer hose storage end caps come loose

Apologies if this has been posted before but we hope to find a solution before our next trip out.

Considering this (see picture) is where our sewer hose is stored, we don't want the bumper end caps constantly loosening up while towing.

What's the best solution to keep the caps securely attached so we don't lose our sewer hose, also to ventilate and maybe even prevent wasps or other critters from nesting in there?

btw, our Rhino sewer hose and elbow fits in there very nicely except for the orange adapter which gets stored in an airtight container.

Easy fix - take a small piece of screen material and glue to the inside of the cap over the hole - then drill a hole from top of the bumper, with the cap in place, thru to bottom.....then get a long screw and nut - put screw thru hole and out the bottom....screw on nut and project is complete!!!!

Or, just tap around the edges of the bumper with a rubber mallet until you get a more secure fit.

I lost one like you have on the way home from the dealer. I replaced mine with a better quality vented one. I have also seen these with a keeper wire. Mine didn't come with it. But I haven't lost one yet and I have been rolling for almost a year.

Thanks for the ideas guys!

I ordered what Aaron suggested except with cap keepers.

The drill and screen idea probably would have worked too. I just can't drill a straight hole to save my life. I tried tapping these things in already too. It just didn't work for long and I'm tired of fighting them.

Drill a 1/8 hole top & bottom, put a piece of coat hanger through with a hook at the top end

I'll second that approach. After losing caps and hoses on our old travel trailer, we never lost another one after we did the bent coat hanger setup.

I'm going to install my new caps this weekend. I never want to find out what it's like to get to the dump station and see that our sewer hose is gone.

As bad as that would be, I'd feel sorry for anyone following me as a giant slinky uncoiled itself from my rear bumper before "jumping" onto the road.

Bumper just seems to be decoration anyway - doubt if it would protect anything, too flimsy for a bike rack, and the end caps never stay on.

I ended up putting sewer hoses in an underbed storage box. It rides in the shower, and goes under the TT when camping.

I like the bolt idea, I have been using it for years with no problem. Just drill through the bumper and cap use a 5 inch carriage bolt. needs no nut, just push up the bolt to remove cap and hose...

Found an easier, cheaper fix. Electrical tape: cheap, easily replaceable, and matches the color of the bumper and caps perfectly.

Quick note: After a while, depending on temperature, exposure to sunlight and humidity, the PVC type electrical tape does tend to leave black adhesive on things (hands, pants) as the tape begins to flap in the wind. 37 years an electrician (22 marine, 15 industrial).

I moded mine by drilling a hole in the bottom of my stinky slinky storage, then I took a curved hook off my peg board and put it in that hole. Makes an excelant safety catch incase you loose the cap. Easy to remove and install, and no lost slinky.

With the cap out, drill a hole in the front side of the bumper. Then place the cap in the bumper and drill a smaller hole in the cap (same location). I use a wing nut screw. The smaller hole in the plastic cap keeps the screw snug and the cap remains in the bumper.
