Battery required?
I recently bought a new Coleman cts244bh. The dealer doesn't include a battery with new trailers they sell, so I have to buy one. What size of battery would be recommended? I have heard 2-6 volts will work and a 12 volt will work. What do I need to consider when purchasing one?
Thanks

So is there a converter/charge in the unit. I have never seen an RV without a battery. If you converter has enough amps to charge them. Then 2 6 volt batteries would be the best. Do you have room for 2 6 volt batteries. You need to keep doing your research. If you only can swing one 12 volt, make sure it is a deep cycle.
OK I just googled your trailer and you do have a Solid State Converter w/Built in Battery Charger. See what the charge rate is and again if you have room for two 6 volts go for it. Depending where they are located, you will probably need a vented battery box for whatever battery you go with. And either way you will need some kind of tray to told. I have on RV with no battery boxes but that is your decision.
Good Luck and Have Fun

Do you plan on doing any dry camping? If not, I would just get one 12v deep cycle battery. Two 6 volt batteries will give you almost double the run-time, but if you are always connected to shore power it's overkill.
Am I the only one that finds it strange that the dealer didn't include a battery in the sale?

I find it strange as well that no battery was included. I believe it says 12 v battery right on the sales brochure.

Um, the dealer took it out to keep it safe until the rig was purchased. Or, maybe they didn't want it to freeze while waiting to be purchased.
No battery would be akin to no water pump but then again it wasn't too many years ago when trucks didn't come with spare tires. Remember those days????

When we bought ours the battery was extra. We purchased a 12V at Costco.

For those of you from Alberta you may want to shop in Kamloops, British Columbia as one dealer there is offering 2 - 6v batteries with a trailer purchase. I'm sure the pricing in Alberta isn't that tight that they can't offer a battery, sounds like they're gouging.

I got two full propane tanks.
Not sure the drive to kamloops would be worth the cost of 2 battery's...... Or paying the extra tax

No battery? Very interesting, guess the dealer wants to increase profit margin! Lol. Unless your doing a lot of dry camping I would stay with the 12 volt deep cell. I'm partial to Interstate. I have been told if your going to go with 6 volt get the golf cart kind. The plates are larger and they last longer.

No battery with mine either. Went to look at it Sat and they asked me if I wanted to buy a battery. Had a nice letter to send back that is crazy it should be part of the deal. Imagine buying a truck then the salesman saying would you like to purchase a battery with your car. I'm still fuming.

The dealer could increase his profit margin even more by including a battery in the purchase, and tacking on his cost+profit in the asking price of the trailer.
I'm just picturing: New RV owner, no battery from dealer, not familiar with hitching, trailer comes uncoupled, no battery, no emergency brakes on the trailer. I bet I cound find a hundred lawers in my town alone that would take on that case against the dealer.

This might be the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of. Would love to know if this is Dutchmen or the dealer. This should never be separate.

It's pretty much standard in the industry that a battery does not come with the trailer. As far as I know, they do not ship from the manufacturer with the trailer, it is a dealer added item. Most dealers will include a starter package that typically includes a battery, filling the propane tanks, and usually a sewer hose, and sometimes some sewer chemicals. It's just good business to bundle this in with the sale so customers don't feel like they are having their pockets picked. I always negotiate the battery, and propane fill into the deal.

We had to negotiate our dual batteries into the deal... The dealer was going to include one.

I Just took delivery of a Denali 289RK. It came with a Battery, two full propane tanks and 50 foot 50 amp power cable. Everyone else I know has received the same thing when buying a new RV.
Sounds to me like the dealer is the type that will nickel and dime their customers.

So your telling me all those RV's being delivered around the country do not have a battery in them to activate the brakes if they come unhooked? Damn that is just plain scary!

Wouldn't that be like buying a car but the steering wheel is an optional add-on?
