Back bumper mount

I have a 2011 Dutchmen Lite, it has a metal post and square box mounted to the back bumper.
I assume this is for a spare tire. Am I correct?

Is this a factory mount or an add on? I would like to attach my bike rack to the tire mount if the bumper can hold the wieght.

I had a welder friend check my back bumper (Kodiak 242RESL) to see if I could add a bike rack and he advised me not to do that. He said that the steel is so thin that the weld would stay but the steel would rip away. Looking now at adding a hitch to the front of my truck. Advantage of this is that my bike goes with me no matter what I'm hauling.

Welder should be able to weld a hitch frame to your trailer frame that should work fine.

We had that done on our last travel trailer. Worked great, carried two bikes, and when we got to where we were staying, we moved the bike rack to the pickup hitch to take the bike to riding trails.

Now we have a toy hauler, so the bikes go in the garage, along with the motorcycle.

I have a 2014 Kodiak 291RESL. The book states that my factory bumper can hold 300lbs. Would you say that is true?

Idea for ya, I made this up (saw something similar online). It worked out well for us holding four bikes. Not welded to the frame. Sandwitched.
