awning issues

Kodiak 263rls.
This is our second season with the Kodiak. We moved up from a popup. During our walk through I specifically asked about tying down the awning and was told that with this design there was no need. We do a lot of coastal and desert camping so we see a lot of wind. I'm concerned about damaging the awning. We are currently camped on coastal South Carolina and have been getting wind and torrential downpours at night. I brought the awning in last night, but of course had to dry out this morning.

Maybe they said there wasn't a need to tie down the awning is because they want to sell you another one.

When mine is out and the awning starts rocking the 42 foot toy hauler I don't think any design is capable of withstanding those kinds of winds for long. I don't intend to see how long it takes before the whole enchilada is folded over the top on my rig.

It's your decision to believe the person that laid that line on you but you already know that's probably alot of smoke. If you have concerns about the wind and your awning then it would be prudent to follow your instints and roll that baby up.

We were told the same thing - with the electric awning - no need to tie it down.....well my practice is - if leaving the TH the awning goes in.....

My electric awning (Carefree of Colorado) was mangled by the wind when I left it out and a brief thunderstorm rolled through. $400+ fix. Bring the awning in if there will be wind or you are leaving it unattended, your fears of damage are valid.

All awnings should be retracted in windy conditions. It doesn't take much wind to damage these things either.
