Antenna crank issue

What to do now?

I have my new TT in the shop for a bunch of things. This one I bet you haven't heard before.

The TV antenna placement is above the dining room slide. In that slide is of course the dinette with its under bench pots and pans storage along with an above the recliner ceiling cabinets.

Here's the rub, pun intended. With items stored away in the above areas, the flat floor slide ramps at a slightly different angle. That slight change caused the slide to hit, and break, the antenna crank, rotating dial and who knows what above. Even the service manager had a good laugh when he tried to raise the antenna and it fell apart in his hand.

The fix could be as easy as cutting a relief area in the trim, but that would look terrible. Would have to be over 1 1/2" deep and 6" to 7" wide. Can not trim the shaft or the rotating dial would not work. Moving the unit would leave a hole in the roof with a patch.

So, I guess, the question is who was the pin head who decided to put the antenna there and is that person still working for Dutchman/Coleman.

There are more problems, some worse, but I had to share this one.

Your right, who did the PDI. This problem is just so wrong on so many levels. I am going to post on the furnace tread I'll bet you will like!

Sorry, nothing in the furnace tread relates, so I'll put it here.

This unit has a rear entertainment unit. Nothing new there. It also has a electric fireplace that is also an electric heater. That unit takes up the center 1/3 of the wall, centered and is from floor to counter top in height. The door side 1/3 houses the water heater and by pass hoses, electronics and wires for both the kitchen above the floor slide and electric awning( which sit on the floor), and rear wiring for tail and clearance lights.

The other 1/3 cabinet houses a lot. It has a louvered panel, that is so tight, I can not get it off. I'll leave that for the repair/warranty guys. However, a mechanics mirror and flash light revealed the following: radio/DVD (obvious), water pump and all related hoses, fresh water inlet hose, cable TV/ satellite input connectors, all AC cables for the rear wall, antenna cable, all DC wires for the rear wall, tail and clearance light wires and a few other things I can not identify until I get in there.

Oh, by the way, the Atwood gas furnace is in the same space. It sits, more or less, on the floor with its output vent hoses dropping down below the floor. I mention this because each time the furnace runs, smoke pours out of that louvered panel and it sets off the fire alarm. I expect some assembly oils to have to burn off but this has happened a number of times. We have had to sleep on the sofa bed near the fireplace heater a few times. It gets downright cold in there.

So. Once again. Questions. Why not put all water related items in the same cabinet. After all, to winterize, you have to close the by pass to the water heater and use the water pump to draw anti freeze into the system.

Radio/DVD is placed only a few inches from the top of the furnace. Wires and cables are laying in the top of the furnace also.

To give Dutchman there due, the floor space in this unit is awesome! The layout is superb and the fixed kitchen island ell that slides into a cabinet is super. I just wish that some common sense would have been used. Don't get me wrong, I love the unit. I just have to vent and give others a heads up. After all, that is why this web site exists. Right?

Well yes, but we all need to balance the bad with the good or people wandering through the forum may think that all Dutchmen products are no good.

Knock wood but I have not had any issues with my Komfort and it's been a great unit!
