Angry That irritating entry door holder

Well we were told by the dealer to be careful to not accidentally try to close the door when latched in the open position and of course after a few accidental tugs, the darn thing pulled out. The design, to put it nicely, really ROTS! So now it needs to be repaired. I think I have a great solution, a magnetic door holder. We have one in our house. Google it, there are many different kinds, I think I can find one or fashion something that will work better than the manufacturers original solution. Anyone try this?

That's one of them learning things.

But your latch should hold up to more that a tug on the door, the worst that should happen, you look around to see if anybody saw you do it.

I know I have given the door more than a tug and I do the quick look, before I unhook it.

One quick fix if it is the door, you could put a backing plate on the inside then use stove bolts. Off course this means drilling through the door.

There must not be any backing material for the scews to grab.

A magnet would be a good work around, but you want one that has some serious pull to it. The door can give you a good wallop if it breaks loose on a windy day. I have left the door unlatched a couple of times when I take the dogs out. The wind decided to gust just as I was heading back in the TT. I had a nice big egg above my eye for a week.

If the holes didn't get too big when the lacth pulled out, you could try nutserts or hollow wall anchors.
