Solar Install on Roof 2018 Kodiak Cub 175bh

Installing Renogy 200W (two panels) on my Kodiak Cub.

1. Do you know what the roof material actually is?

2. Have you installed solar onto the roof and if so did you drill/screw or use the VHB tape method?

3. If you drilled, did you find studs/joists/trusses or drill directly into the roof material?

I remember my Aspen Trail roof being plywood on trusses with the rubbery roof material on top of that. I drilled screws and used dicor sealant. I don't remember if I hit trusses but I'm sure I wanted to! I do remember them being firmly fixed with the screws into the ceiling plywood.

I set mine down with Dicor's eternabond tape and plenty of dicor sealant. The ETERNABOND is just that, eternally stuck to your roof and the panel.

Roof is TPO "rubber". TPO is on very thin ply or chip core. Support trusses are far apart. Step slowly and carefully to avoid breaking the ply. I place an addition 1/4 ply sheet on top to step on.

I have not installed solar on the roof.

3. If you drilled, did you find studs/joists/trusses or drill directly into the roof material?

You can find the trusses by stepping on the roof. Thin ply gives, showing approximately where there is support.

If you can hit the trusses, use long screws. If just screwing to ply, use many small screws.

Eternabond tape has been successful for many people. Be sure to follow installation instructions. It requires a clean surface and pressure to fully activate the adhesive.

Thanks for your replies. Looks as if there’s some decent wood studs in the front, about 16” apart. I will put eternabond tape down, followed by drilling, then dicor in the holes and around the brackets.

just make sure your roof is clean when you put the tape down, I made sure to seal the few holes I made with dicor sealant then actually taped the cables down with eternabond tape. They are still there, four years later.
