A/C won't shut off

We have a Dutchmen Kodak 291RESL 2017.
Thermostat is a Dometic Capacitive Touch 3316410.

On our maiden shake down cruise, found the AC won't shut off. Our thermostat is black with blue lit background. Seeing the inside temperature was at 86 degrees when we got hooked up at campsite, outside temp was 82, I set thermostat at 78. After running for 6 hrs straight, inside temp is 76 but it won't shut off! Doesn't matter what setting is, it runs if it's in the Auto mode.

I raised the thermostat in 1 degree increments for a few minutes each until it was at 90 and it keeps running. The fan runs constantly and you can hear the compressor kicking in for a few minutes and going off, over and over.

Can't get it to run on low fan speed either. Manual says it will run on high if there is a 5 degree or greater difference, then supposed to run on low once 4 degrees or lesser than thermostat setting. Ours just runs on high continuously.

Once when poking some buttons, the heater actually came on simultaneously as the AC! Both were running! Not just the fan on the AC but compressor was running too!

Ok, you say the AC is running... you also mention the compressor a few times. Request for clarification:

1) Is just the AC fan running constantly, or...

2) Is the compressor also running constantly?

All of the following is conditional of #1 above being what's happening...

If it's just the fan running constantly, ensure the FAN setting is in the "AUTO" setting. If it's in either "LOW", "MED", or "HIGH"... the fan will run constantly regardless of the temp setting.

Also, even though controlled by the same thermostat, your furnace is completely separate from the AC system... so if the FAN setting is not in the "AUTO" setting, it is possible for both the furnace & AC system to run simultaneously.

So... ensure your FAN is set to "AUTO", and you Issue should be resolved.

----------

If #2 is correct... your compressor is running constantly... then someone else will have to chime in to help.

Good luck!

If #2 is correct, it's broke, which seems to be very frequent with dometic these days.

Ummmm, you can't count yours dawniewest. Even a Coleman starts to behave unexpectedly once it is SHEARD off its mount and thrown 12 feet to the ground.

(I just couldn't resist. It's a gorgeous day on top of the Rockies. No AC required)

No worries, my first ac did puke after less than a year, it was the brand new replacement that I sheared off.

Try complete reset of the thermostat. I think they call it initialization, should be in the manual. Otherwise I would suspect a bad thermostat.

Thank you for the replies.

The issue is resolved! Thank God!

ATCGuy, you win the prize!
It was the fan setting. Fan was set at either low or medium, which as ATCGuy said, left it running constantly. The compressor did go on and off, not running continuously.
Setting the fan to Auto solved the issue.

Thanks!
