Would You Camp There?

The title of Thom's earlier post today got me thinking...

We often post about campgrounds & RV parks that we've enjoyed & would recommend... but unless we've been really ticked off, we rarely post about places that we've not enjoyed, and would definitely NOT recommend. And this might be a good place to do that. I know I've certainly stubbled into some places that I wished someone would've warned me of beforehand... how about you?

Review sites like the Good Sam rating system, and AllStays app are ok... but they encompass a wide range of campers' opinions. Places & amenities that a tent camper cares about (elevated grass sites, clean bath house, etc) and would rate excellent have very little meaning to those who pull a large 5th wheel, prefer a long & wide site for their rigs & toys, and have their own bathroom & shower.

Now a possible problem I see with this is, we live in a very litigious society, and once something negative is published about someone or someplace... regardless of whether the statement is correct or incorrect... it opens both the author & publisher up to potential legal consequences.

So, with that said, I'm just wondering if this is something that others might like to participate in? I'm thinking of keeping things just short & sweet, and nothing slanderous. Facts only. Something like...

(Example: )
Sunny Days RV Park... Anywhere, USA
Yes for overnight stay
No for a weekend or longer
-Motorcycles not allowed in the park
-Unpaved sites become mud-holes when it rains

Thoughts?

I'm up for it. I'm not too worried about being sued though, Canadian laws are a little different on these matters, and as I used to tell my ex-wife, "you can't get blood from a stone".

I camp in the same 6-8 places all the time, so if anyone comes over this way, I can tell them like it is.

I used the RV Park reviews the ad sits to right of this screen. Find the reviews there pretty good. Also look a good sam. Reviews here could be helpful also.

If we are headed somewhere we have never been before I will reviews from multiple sites if possible. Do a google search, check out the location on Google Earth, etc. I take reviews with a grain of salt, anything with 75% or better in the 4-5 star rating it probably going to be okay for me. As a general rule people are more apt to complain than compliment.

Gonna be in Augusta next week!

Heritage RV Park... Interesting place but I have stayed there before.

Going full time

My husband and I hope to go full time RVing in the next year or so. We have family in Florida and in Minn. Our plan is to be near them during their warm season.
Now, we love really nice parks as much as the next guy. BUT, looking at monthly rates of 800 to 1000/month is a bit much. We kinda like to eat too!!
We have no issue doing the WalMart thing , but not every day. And, we've talked about state parks as we are pretty self contained.
Those of you that do this, any thoughts? How do you find those smaller, less expensive parks? Any suggestions are much appreciated.

I use the RV Parks & Campgrounds app to find what is listed in the area I am heading to. Then once I get there I ask around. In more than a few cases I have found small private campgrounds that were under the radar. One was by asking at the local small town hardware store, another was the local independent grocery store, the cashier's aunt had about a dozen RV slots on the back of an old apple farm, but did not advertise. Also look for workcamping opportunities, we have friends that get paid for keeping up the campground and they get a free spot. Currently they are somewhere in FL, then they will be heading into the GA Blue Ridge Mountains for the summer.

Wow... um, ok... not for nothing, but I've been full timing for over 2 years now, and frankly, $800-$1000/month is pretty doggone reasonable, so long as it's a decent place in a decent locale.

As I've traveled around the country, I've found that $50/night is about average for a full-hookup pull-thru site (substract $3 or $4 for a back-in site). Some places less... many places more, especially if you're in popular locations near resorts, lakes, beaches, national parks, festivals, sporting events, etc... or where it's warm in the winter.

Simple math tells you that $50/night x 30 days = $1,500/month.. and that includes your utilities. In most places, if you get a monthly rate, they put you "on the meter" for electricity... so you'll pay that over your rate when you check out.

As such, $1,000/mo brings that down to approximately $30/night.

Sure, you can find places that are even cheaper than that... but do your homework. Most of them are places exactly like what I was talking about in my original post... you won't wanna be there very long.

I have to agree with Tom. We spend 6 months a year in our RV. I think $800 in a reasonably popular area is pretty cheap. I suppose if you camped out in a cornfield somewhere with no attractions, shopping, etc., you could do better, but why would you?

Anchor Down Rv Resort, Dandridge TN.

Along the lines of the posting.... Anyone ever been? we are heading there this weekend for 4 nights. Although the weather doesn't look stellar we booked way in advance and will certainly enjoy. If any have been here shoot me some feedback, they seem super restrictive.

I’ve heard nothing but great reviews about Anchor Down. I’ve never been myself, but have plentry of friends in the area that tell me I need to visit the next time I come back east across the Mississippi. I’ve got that place in my highly recommended folder... and if I’m correct, they’re listed in the southern top 10 list of many review sites.
