Newby - should i get the extended warranty?
Just purchased a 2019 Kodiak Ultralite 261RBSL. They offered a warranty for $1400 that include mobile tech service for 7 years. Is this a good deal?

50% will say yes and the other 50 will say no. If you're at all handy it can be a waste of money. My AC and refrigerator both died in the first year, they were covered by warranty. I've done all other repairs and maintenance myself. For the record, my dealer talked me OUT of the extended warranty, he said it was garbage

What, exactly, does the extended warranty cover? Read the fine print. Roof damage? Wall delamination? Bent axles? Water damage? Think of what could go wrong then see if the warranty covers it.

IMHO no, it is not worth it, read the fine print on what is covered, where you have to take it, and how much out of pocket you will have to pay. This is where the dealer makes their profit and you lose!

Check with Good Sam. I have theirs and it is inexpensive. Covers most of what could go wrong that would be expensive.
Used it once to replace a landing gear.

Personal experience this season. Power cord failure 10 weeks out of factory warranty. Xtraride extended warranty. Covered $2,200 in damage. Just last week, Splendide dryer died. $350 repair bill covered. 5 months into 7 year plan and I've gotten 70% of my premium back.

I've got structural issues (soft floor near the bed) and my extended warranty doesn't cover it BUT, had an issue with the slide and they paid it no question. Problem is, they need to know how much it will cost BEFORE you get it fixed... I hate that!

Another quirk is you can't fix it yourself and get reimbursed, even if it is cheaper. Must be inspected by a repair technician.

Extended warranty
I'm usually not a big fan of extended warranties but negotiated one into the purchase of my Dutchmen Voltage 3200. Thank God I did because it was used to the max fixing stupid pathetic factor workmanship. Saved me literally thousands of dollars getting slides fixed correctly, popped nose cone cover to name a few.

If it's a good one, better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it. On my car and truck I have Gieco, and they offer an aftermarket warranty if you buy a new vehicle, and is good for 125K miles. $250 deductible is the only down side, but if a $4K transmission goes boom, $250 is nothing.
I don't know if they offer one for RV though, but would be a good option if they do. Mine is used when I bought it, so didn't even come up.
Knock on wood, the only thing I had to repair on it was a bad main breaker, whoever installed it cranked down on the screw so much it stripped and eventually loosened up to the point if overheated and tripped. I have had to replace a couple damaged items, like the cover for the vent in the bath, and the flap on the range hood vent, one was from hail damage, the other because I forgot to lock it in place before travel. Overall, been very pleased with how well mine has held up since I got it in 2016. Only expenses were actual improvements instead of repairs.
