New Member - 2013 Voltage 3950

Hello all-

Just joined the forums here and find them very informative. Being the owner of one of the largest message forums on the web for automotive technicians, I sure will enjoy the discussions here at dutchmenowners.org.

Feel free to call on me when you need any automotive advice on your truck or car and I will assist where I am able. Being a former Senior Master Certified Ford Auto & Truck Technician for over 22 years, I can access the Ford latest service information directly.

I just purchased a loaded 2013 Voltage 3950 and I will pull this with my 2008 F-350 King Ranch 4x4 6.4L Crew Cab. I use the 20K B&W Companion Hitch and I am at the high side of my towing limit currently, but may upgrade to a DRW when funds permit....so I may have some questions on towing a rig this large along the way.

Mark

Welcome aboard Mark. Nice to have a Senior Master Ford Tech on board for all us Ford owners. I've never had the 6.4 put have towed with the 7.3 & 6.0. This 6.7 tows circles around any of the other Powerstrokes I've owned.

Thanks for the welcome......I have never actually towed with a 6.7L, but know that its PCM & TCM strategy collectively produce a very high torque output to the wheels, which can definitely result in greater towing capability over the 6.4L.

Glad to see a Ford guy on here besides myself

I tow with a 2003 F150 Lariat plus cab, 4.6l, 3:55LS, with factory tow package. Does the job just fine on anything under 6,000#. For the heavier stuff I default to my 1996 F350 CC, PSD dually it had 4:10LS rear end. "In it or on it, IT IS going with it!"

Got another 1996 PSD that doesn't leave the farm...

I didn't work for Ford, but I was Fleet Manager for City of Palm Springs in the 80's-2002. When I speced out vehicle they were Fords. Got a tour with other Ford Fleet guys to the proving grounds in Arizona in the late 90's. Saw a V-6 powerstroke they were testing out back then. It was in a Expedition. Was a 7.3 with rear two cylinders missing. They also had a diesel in a Ranger they wouldn't let us see. With Dodge having their V-6 diesel Ford needs to step up & put one in a F-150.

I was in the Bahamas and saw a full sized Ford Ranger crew cab with a diesel... wanted to bring it home, but it wouldn't fit in my carry on luggag.e Looked similar to the 96 model I had except for the 4 doors and long bed, believe it may have had a Perkins engine in it. Not the Sport Track thingy that we had in the states. I love small diesels. I had an Isuzu P'up back in the day, couldn't kill it. Body rotted out around the 200,000 mile mark, sold it to a buddy of mine that put a new body on the chassis and kept it rolling to somewhere around 500k. We have a Kubota tractor here on the farm, I keep looking at it and wondering just what else I could stuff it in.

The US has lagged behind in smaller efficient vehicles for years. But apparently they don't sell well. I have been told the same thing about small RV's but they are hard to find and premium priced when you do.

Yep, that's one place were Ford missed the boat.

They announced a V6 diesel for the F150 about 10 to 15 years ago, I waited for the arrival for a couple of years and gave up the wait and after 40+ years driving nothing but Fords, I went elsewhere.

Ford is going to have an up hill battle to gain back that part of the market.

Welcome Master ford Mark,
We are headded past you this weekend on the way up to Algonac State park to do some trap and skeet shooting. You are more than welcome to join if you can find a spot big enough for that monster to fit.

of course we can still be friends.....My brother in law just bought a 2014 3500 and he gives me crap for owning a power stroke ;-)

My job in real life is to represent the workers who make cummins engines....odd how things work out :-)
