New Here

Hey there,

We are new to the forum, and returning to the RV life. We just bought a new tow vehicle and we are finalizing the purchase of a 5th wheel toy hauler. Most likely going to be the Voltage 4145.

I am really hoping to get feedback on the Voltage 4145 if anyone is willing to share.

Both our boys play hockey so we travel quite a bit for that, but we also want to get out and see more of the U.S.

Looking forward to learning and hopefully sharing as we move forward.

I would read all the posts because most issues are found across many models and not just the specific one you are considering.

I would say most issues relate to:

Suspension— will likely be fine on a brand new unit but can wear quickly, however I think much less risk on a three axle with weight spread across more than two axles.
Tires (cheap OEM)
Air conditioning (ducting primarily)—confirm adequate air volume at all vent locations, especially garage and loft bed as those areas can get hot!
Fuel tank gauges

Good luck.

When you find the rig you want. Get or do Pre purchase inspection on it, search google for the form. Then make sure everything is fixed before signing the paperwork.

RV Inspectors

THe RV industry is at an all time low for quality. Just read the forums here for the horror stories about every new coach. And dealers are not good at honoring warranties, either.

Consider hiring an RV inspector, before you sign on the dotted line. They will do a comprehensive inspection (usually 5-8 hours) and give you a detailed written report. Hand that report to the dealer and tell him you will buy when all that stuff is fixed. Dealers are notorious for doing poor warranty work, or keeping your rig for months, or making you come back multiple times for warranty. But not if you haven't paid them yet.

If the dealer refuses to cooperate, then you need a different dealer.

The best $500-800 you will spend for your RV.

We own a 2017 3605 voltage toy hauler made by Dutchman. We have had nothing but problems with the camper (very poor workmanship ). Could not find a dealer in our area that would take care of any warranty work that existed. The dealer that we bought it off of was not very cooperative when it came to taking care of their product they were located in the Lake Erie Pennsylvania. Dutchman had a hostile takeover by Keystone and I think that led up to the bad workmanship be careful. We had a lot of generator problems electrical and brake problems electrical.

Quality Travel Trailer Brands

The following post is from about two years ago. There are many more brands for which I do not have good data. Buying a cheap TT like the various Dutchmen models is like gambling. You never know what you are going to get. You can shade the odds in your favor by choosing a brand with better odds. Cheap purchase prices does not always translate into cheap cost of ownership.

Truth in advertising usually does not apply to the cheap TT industry. Buyer be ware. State lemon laws do not usually apply to TT's. The federal lemon law does not apply.

I wish you good luck and happy trails ahead!
