Get a rivet gun at Lowes about $20.00 They come in handy. Drill out the head on the old rivet Don't use to big of a drill bit. Get the right size and length new rivets. I would recommend that...

You should be able to push the pin back in Again try plenty of spray But the best fix will be to remove the handle and clean it up

I had the opposite problem My pin would not engage.
Try spraying the pin and anything else you can get to with some silicone spray. If that doesn't work then look at the handle it should be held...
