I have a regular one with the handheld screen. Bought it years ago to inspect the inside of fire...

I think it was determined that these units are designed by sales staff. They don't hire engineers... cuts into the profit margins too much.

Could they be "attic" vents? I have seen those on a few RV's, they look similar to the plumbing covers, but only go just through the roof deck.
