I should have thought about those.. my MIL was a cosmetologist for years and they used those in all the sinks at the salon. She still uses them on the bathroom sinks at home.

The trap is pretty close up to the drain, so I would say being able to see some water is normal. Dunno about drano in an RV system, I have never had to use it.
