I agree, that's what I normally do as well but if this unit is going to be parked for an extended time flushing the hose isn't a concern.
But your point is very good advice for travelers.

kayakcrazy is right about debris covering the sensors and giving false readings. I personally would not use bleach as chlorine ruins rubber seals. There really isn't any point sterilizing something...
