I was able to get up on a ladder and turn the mechanism while my wife was pressing the retract switch. Seemed to work as we retracted and extended several times. We'll see how this workaround works...

Watertight membrane??
After returning my recent camping trip, I noticed what I believe to be a watertight membrane coming undone from the metal frame. Any ideas how to reattach it, or repair it?
