Not really, an LED is an LED, period. An LED will work with most any voltage, it's the current that is the key to operation.
The difference is the addition of a blocking diode to use for AC voltage. Coupled with the correct resister and the diode (to clip one side of the AC cycle therefore making the voltage semi DC), it'll work.
