Tpms

Any thoughts on a TPMS. Tekonsha Prodigy seems to be what the RV dealers push most. I'm not sure I like the idea of screw on transmitter sensors and if you lock them on it's looks like a real pain to take them off to do something as simple as add a little air. Also, for folks that use TPMS, do you hook up your tow vehicle with it too?

Sorry, I meant "Tire Minder", not Tekonsha Prodigy.

I run the TST system on all 12 tires on my rig. I like how it displays pressure information and temperature, and also like that you can disconnect the trailer on the display, and use it when you aren't hooked up. The only drawback is putting air in. The sensors are easy enough to take off, but its still time consuming. The do make air-through sensors, but I didn't want to spend the money. I would recommend this system to anyone.

I use them. So far very satisfied with the performance and accuracy.

Another vote for the TST system. Very user friendly, and no issues at all with the flow-thru screw-on sensors.

Are your valve stems all metal or are they the common type of rubber with brass threads? TNT recommends all metal stems but says most people with the common type don't have any problems. The problem they cite is that with the rubber body stems it's sometimes hard to get the sensors screwed down far enough to work properly.

Mine stems are all metal. I replaced my cheap RV tires with Goodyear G614's, which required high-pressure valve stems. And with my dually truck, I have these extensions, which secure to the lug nuts.

I ordered a TireMinder A1A with 6 transmitters yesterday. I did a lot of looking and reading, I will get my first chance to use it in a few weeks.

I use the Hawkshead system on my trailer and the metal T stems so that I can add or remove air as required without taking off the sensors. This will be the third year and other than one sensor faulting under heavy vibration (replaced under warranty) I'm happy with how the system has performed.

Cheers

Cale, What were your final two choices and what made you go with the TireMinder?

I looked at TST, TireMinder, TireTraker, Innotech (the last three actually have models that look identical), amongst others.

A couple months ago, I was getting ready to spring for the TST system, but the more I dug into it, I saw a lot of complaints about sensor failure, possibly from a redesign. TST was making good on the broken sensors, but still a pain. People also complained about the weight of the sensors. I run DynaBeads in my tires, so balancing is not a concern to me, but I have a rubber/brass valve stem, TST suggests using on hard mounted stems.

The TireMinder and TST have Camping World only models. The TireMinder model at CW is not as nice as the model from TireMinder, the model I have, the A1A, has a booster included with the system, which is a concern for a trailer of my length. TST says you may need one, have to try it and see, TireMinder says to use it, no questions asked...

I have read some great reviews about TireMinder's customer service, which is a plus to me...the transmitters are much lighter, and the receiver seems to be much smaller. It was also cheaper for a 6 transmitter version as compared to the TST...

I saw a brand Pressure Pro...that is a complex and beefy system. They make theirs for dump trucks and etc, but has a specific type for RVs. They looked nice, but very pricey...

I am running the Pressure Pro - I really like it as I have sensors on all 6 truck and all 6 trailer tires with room to expand to the spares if I want to.

Another little plus for tire minder is they give you free sensor batteries for life, just send them your old ones for "propper disposal".

Not that I am going to change now, wife may shoot me, is it pretty straight forward to use? I liked them, especially since they are Made in the USA, but they were pricey. Everything looks very well built, even the booster looks like a router for internet. However, the price to monitor only the 6 trailer tires and the signal booster was pushing $600....

It is - I remove the sensors during the winter to conserve battery life and store them in a marked egg carton so that I out them back on the same tire. Programming is quite easy. I actually have the unit designed for semitruck use - I think up to 24 or so sensors as I got a good deal on eBay for it. I got the external antanna and mounted it up on the frame near my spare tire to ensure I got my second trailer I was towing behind my previous 5th wheel.

I haven't decided on what I'm going to do yet but I might have a solution for your egg carton. When I was talking with the TST folks I asked if there was a way to number the sensors so I don't get them mixed up. They sell weather proof stickers for that purpose. I'm sure one could order the stickers separately.

I have a paint pen I thought about using but like them left black. The egg carton is easy and it sits on a shelf next to the other "seasonal" items that I fiddle with each spring and fall when getting the rig ready so no big deal.

I have the TST, and I don't have any problem with reading the the tire sensors on the trailer. I bought a booster, and haven't installed it yet. They still seem to work fine.

I am curious if anyone that is using the Tire Minder system, if they are experiencing any problems? I used mine once (I do have a repeater installed at the battery of the RV) and they send false readings. I had one tire that kept reporting 144lbs of air. Every time I would check it, it had less then 84 lbs hot. others would set the alarm off saying it was at 88 lbs and again they checked below 85. I even dropped the cold air pressure the next day to 76 lbs and they still set off an alarm. I am hoping this is caused by the valve stems that came with the stock wheels. I am replacing the tires today and putting on all Brass stems.

Has anyone experienced the same issue and if so did you figure it out? I was tempted to change to the TST with internal sensor but after already investing the 300+ on these, hoping to get them to work.

I did an inordinate amount of reading and had decided to go with TireMinder. Used for the first time a couple weeks ago, experienced "No S" on 4 of 6 sensors. Annoying since there is no information being sent. I also question the temperature readings. I will be putting a call into TireMinder, as I am extremely unhappy. I will let you know what they say.
