Hi...we recently purchases a 2011 Dutchmen 185DB Sport....I have a 2004 Trailblazer....hubby has a 2002 Ford F150 Here is my question...we know the Ford is okay for towing...but what about my Trailblazer...here are the specs that I can find:
2004 Trailblazer 4WD 6cyl 4.2L
Wheelbase....113 inches
Rear axle ratio...3.73
I keep getting mixed info about towing capacity and such...
the weight of the camper varies also...
when the dealer "weighed" it it was under 4100 lbs, but yet Dutchmen claims it is 4400
ANY help would be appreciated...we live in Illinois and don't travel far...not big hill, mountains etc. Thanks!

The difference in weight of the TT may be due to the gross weight from Dutchmen. That would be with full tanks. When the dealer weighed it it would have had empty tanks. Just a thought...

Mousefn62.. We tow our 2010 kodiak 20 fl empty weight 3866 loaded weight 5400 lbs with our 09 Nissan 4 litre V6 Frontier..with air bags. Towing capacity for the truck is 6100lb. In my opinion I have MAxed out the towing capacity of the truck. Given BC has moutain passes, hills galore..the truck is no speed freak when climbing with the TT in tow. We go easy and don't abuse the truck.

Well 670 miles towing with the trailblazer can-do up to 70mph 55 on hills she runs 190-220 temp and 2- 3000 rpm depending on terrain she is a good tow vehicle but I would like a Tahoe in due time for the proper power the total feet is 43, 44 sway and bounce is only when there large trucks or wind looking an Andresen hitch to help the grand aero towing mirrors help just had to get a new piece lost a piece this weekend

It may be a toss up for towing capacity but the real question becomes one of which will you get more use from? The SUV has an enclosed cargo area already, the truck would require a tonneau or topper at added cost if that is important to you.

Towing with a trailblazer

I am towing a 24' Kodiak which is 4400 lbs dry with a 2008 Trailblazer 4.2 L 6 cyl. We went 8200 mi last year ( Florida to Cal and back to CT) and averaged 11.5 mpg. Only problem we had was going out I-40 Amarillo to Flagstaff with a strong head wind. I drive in 3rd gear at 2700 rpm gives me 65 mph. I love the Trailblazer.

Last spring (2013) I purchased a 2003 trailblazer lS RWD at time we had an Expedition with a fuel leak we towed up till November 2013 this spring (2014) we where advise not tow due that the transmission would not hold up and we also had a 2 ed issue we put a sewer tube where the license pate was so we could not get it out.

We fixed some problems we had the year prior we worked all summer and early fall cleaning up the main problem in 2013 we paid off all of the debit we had got into and saved up as much money as we could and look at what we would like to tow our Kodiak we made on decision that has been a major issue in the past we would order or buy a new camper and 1-3 years change to a different one my mom is now in her 60’s and likes the floor plan and when we choose.

So we narrowed down to a Toyota Tacoma it has 236 HP and tows 6500 then we found a truck that has a feature that will help my work now in its second year a 2015 Chevy Colorado it comes with on the one we ordered November 8 2014 a spray in bed liner like a line x or rhino liner and a Bose sound system and does 7000 lbs with 305 HP 269 torque and built in wi fi that I could use for work It has a wi fi built in through on star and the wheel base is longer than our Expedition should be more stable and in the spring we are planning a slide topper for our Kodiak .
