Stock Ford 5th wheel hitch?

Is anyone on here running the stock 5th wheel hitch that is an option on the newer Super Duty trucks that plugs into the holes in the bed? If so what do you like or not like about it?

Ran one in my 2011 for about 4 years until I traded my fifth wheel in for a motor home.

Likes:
Gave me full use of the bed (No rails left in bed).
Rapid removal or installation, less than 2 minutes in either direction.
Solid hitch, never any issue.
Easy to unhitch because of the length of the release arm.

Dislikes:
HEAVY! Hard to lift it up into the taller bed of my 350, even when separated into 2 pieces. Never owned any other hitch so I can't give you a comparison of the weight vs otheres.

Actually I solved the heavy issue by building a rolling cart the heigh of my tail gate.

I still have my hitch in my garage even though I don't own a 5er anymore. I also have the goose neck ball that I have never installed.

Thanks for your reply Thom. I will get the stock hitch when the time comes and that roll around cart sounds like a great idea.

Buddy of mine has a hoist under his barn that he uses to haul the hitch in and out of the truck bed, I believe he has the B&M unit. He tows a monster 5th wheel, and a tri-axle dual wheel equipment trailer, as well as stock trailers and horse trailers. So being able to swap between hitches for him is a priority. Not sure where he stores the hitch once he pulls it.

I have one on my 2013 F 350, works great, no problem. Really not that heavy when separated in to 2 pieces, I just got a 2018 F 450 with the factory hitch, maybe because its new and tight, its a little hard to release the hitch from the trailer, I just removed and lubricated everything very good, hopefully this will help

Ford factory 5th wheel puck system

I have 2016 F350 and use the factor set up to tow my Voltage 3200. No problems installing or removing the Reese 20K hitch. I use a small winch from Harbor Freight mounted on the garage door header. When the door is up the cable drops between the door and header. I back the truck in, pull the hitch, pull the truck out and set the hitch on a furniture dolly. Then I can roll it around the garage anywhere I need it. Only takes a few minutes to install or uninstall.

Love it

I have the hitch in my 2017 F-250 and love it. I have a wench in my garage ceiling that I use to hoist it out of the bed. I wouldn't go back to the old rail system if you paid me.

What's the wench's name? Or did you mean winch.

I bought the Demco Auto Slide for my 2013 F350. You initially have to shim the sides to align with the puck holes when first mounting. Otherwise it makes the latches hard to turn when installing or removing. That baby weighs close to 300 lbs so I opted for the lifting attachment so I could use my overhead crane. Now it’s easy to swing in or out.

Cool Ford 5th wheel hitch

I've owned several hitches, because I like shortbed pickups, which require a slide type hitch in order to make tight turns. The Fifth Airborne hitch mated with a Reese was a poorly designed hitch that almost cost me the whole ball of wax. Then I had a Pullrite, which was also very expensive and heavy, and both used rails that took up most of my cargo space. When I bought my 2015 F350, I found the Andersen Ultimate hitch that uses the stock bed center ball. This is just as advertised, the Ultimate 5th wheel hitch, much less expensive, ($600) weighs about 30 lbs. so even my wife can remove it and the ball, and tows so much better with less chucking and twisting of the truck. Can't say enough about this combo as it has pulled our '44 Voltage Toyhauler from coast to coast with over 55,000 miles and no hitch issues. (Can't say the same for the trailer itself, but that's another story.)

As I had a couple year old Curt 20k 5th wheel hitch. I just bought the adaptor from Reese that went into the Ford factory bed option. I know have it for sale as I sold my Voltage & F-350 Super Duty
