New TV

Hi all, we currently have a 2008 Land Rover LR3 to tow our 2014 Kodiak 240BHSL. The Kodiak had a dry weight of 4800LBS and the Rover is rated to 7700LBS.
Our truck has done a good job of towing it all over the West for 2 years but the mileage is getting up on it now and I do realized that with the camper loaded we are at the upper end of it's capacity.
So, we are looking at a Toyota Tundra as a replacement. With a 10,000LB tow capacity I think we should be right where we need to be. One thing I'll miss though is the Rover had a self leveling air suspension, no sag in the rear at all. Do you think the Tundra would need air bags installed for our camper? I'd like to have that figured out before we go in to negotiate.
Any other opinions on the Tundra as a TV appreciated.
Thanks!

I traded in my 2007 Tundra on the Chevy HD3500 because of the weight of the toy hauler.

I totally enjoyed having the Tundra for 5 years. It was solid and very well built. I ran into the guy that bought it from the dealer and asked him how he liked it, just a big smile on his face and off he roared. BTW, I bought the Tundra while living in Mexico so 90% of the gas it burned was Mexican gas, all without any problems. I did have a water pump seal go out but extended warranty paid for replacement. The Tundra had a lot of hidey holes for storing stuff, three times more than the Chevy has.

Concerning air bags, I would negotiate them in the price. It would be better to not need them than to have to add them later.

Thanks for the response. I'm pretty sad to be giving up the Land Rover, I love it but the fact is it's a bit low for towing capacity and a bit expensive to maintain!

I'm guessing you have a tongue weight of approximately 600LBS. With your weight distribution hitch, you probably won't need air bags. I would just wait and see how it tows, then decide. My 1/2 ton does just fine with a 900+ Lbs tongue weight with a equalizer hitch. It does squat a little, but not to bad.

Here is two pictures, one without the WD Hitch and the other with the WD Hitch hooked up.

I currently do not have a WDH and have never used one. Land Rover was adamant about not using one. The dealer ended up installing a EZ-Lift friction sway bar. It has worked flawlessly for me driving all over the Country. I was hoping to use this system on the Tundra but maybe I'll need a WDH? I'll get whatever is need as I'm not messing around with something that big going down the highway. I'm just not sure what I'll need........
