Dave,
I agree to the point that though I was told by the dealer (and several toy hauler owners) that a single rear wheel F350 would pull my trailer, I still opted for a dually.
It wasn't worth the few thousand dollars to me I could have saved by not buying a dually. I too have seen entirely too many small SUV's pulling bumper trailers that they obviously have no business doing so and are completely oblivious to the dangers that could happen.

With a 2013 Ford F-350 SRW crew cab long box/FX4, 275/70/18s and 3.55 gears and weighing about 8700lbs with a full tank for fuel and DEF I get 14-17 MPGs driving around Las Vegas. 9.3-11.7 MPG with the 3200 loaded up with two bikes, 60 gal of fuel, 140 gal of water (or however much the fresh tank holds), food and gear. I tow around 65 MPH in most conditions.
I had a 2005 LLY Duramax crew cab long box sitting on 325/65/18s (35inch) tires and 3.73s that got about 16-18 MPGs unloaded when weighing 7700lbs. Max mileage towing the 3200 was about 8.5 doing 55 MPH in the best of conditions.
I loved my Chevrolet, but this new Ford 6.7 pulls the hell out of my 3200.
The best part about this Ford is that it's bone stock...no EGT gauge to make me back out of it on hills.

Since you were unable to comprehend what I said or failed to read it, I said the truck tows better at those speeds because it makes it so easy but I prefer not to because of increased stopping distances, fuel mileage and the fact that I don't want to worry about getting a ticket.
Secondly, the speed limit on most highways is 70 mph, someone doing 80 isn't like a crazy driver driving like a bat out of hell. People driving in the southwest routinely pull those trailers over the 90 mph mark. Not saying it's right or wrong, just saying it happens.
So please learn to read and understand that though I may not drive those speeds, many people do but just because someone is driving a whopping 80 mph doesn't mean "they are looking to kill themselves or someone else".

Northern Nevada is the same. I routinely see large toyhauler's doing 80+ mph, not for me, though. I will pull 75 on the interstate here, when the wind and lack of traffic will allow it. State highways are a different animal up, 70 mph limit, 6 foot deep bar ditches and the fog line is the shoulder. You don't want to have a blowout on a two-lane up here, or have to dodge a cow or elk. That said, a 2014 Ram, 6.7 Cummins, and a 3805 loaded, I average about 8 to 9, if it's not too windy. MT I average around 15. Utah raised the limit on I-80 to 80 mph, but I notice they're enforcing it also. I live in Montana in the early 90's when the limit was reasonable and prudent, saw some horrific wrecks and lost a good friend/coworker in a rollover. Was kind of a wake up call for me.

2015 GMC Diesel 3500 Dually stock, pulling a 2015 3905 -cat scales on trailer- 19054lbs. From Denver Colorado to Taos NM to Fort Walton Beach FL, I averaged 10.5 mpg. Some spots in Texas/Oklahoma the wind was fighting me I got 5-6 but made up for it on the flats of Mississippi.

Our vehicle gets 18 miles per gallon unloaded and thirteen miles per gallon towing. We had expected much worse but that's one advantage of a smaller trailer.

2015 F-350 dually diesel. 10 mpg towing loaded 3990 and 17 highway without it. Truck still new (less than 3,000 miles) so I expect an improvement down the road. (Pun intended).

2012 dodge 2500 cc sb 3:73 auto. Trailer v3005 loaded roughly 14,500 truck right around 8400. HAve pulled this new rv since October and now have logged over14,000 miles. Miles include Sierra and Rockies. Mileage is always affected by wind, geography and altitude. My mileage recently to grand junction, Colorado from smith Nevada and back ultimately was 10 mpg. I have ranged from 8.3 to 11.6 depending on above mentioned factors. If I would have counted the trip out to grand junction only would have been just over 11mpg. Thanks to a reasonable breeze.

We have a 2005 Duramax Allison long bed DRW. It got the usual 15 or so itself, and about 9 with our 24' toy hauler. Our new Voltage 3800 is twice the weight that our bumper pull Ragen 2124 was. I got the whole Banks system and the Dually gets 22 now on the freeway unloaded. We did our first tow last weekend and was happy to get about 11. Also the speedbrake is priceless. Many people speak of what can be towed, and leave out the stopping it part, especially on downhills.
