2016 Dodge 2500 and Voltage 3600???

It seems to pull great just a little sag in the rear. On another thread it was brought to my attention that the 2500 is not enough truck. Any thoughts. It is a 2016 Ram 2500 4x4 Diesel . I have only pulled it about 3000 miles but all seemed fine.
Thanks,
SR

Here's a link where you can enter your VIN number and get all the specs on the towing and payload capabilities of your specific truck. There's a tab top right column to "Look Up My Vehicle".

RAM Trucks - Towing & Payload capacity

Pin weight would be where you are over spec. I see a lot of folks towing heavy with 2500s. I tried towing ours with a 2500 Cummins truck that was eight years older than yours and it didn't work out well for me. I'll spare you the details of specific incidents that required replacement of undergarments, there were a few though.

EDIT: I just re-read and realized you have the 2016 2500. This means you have the 3.42 axle ratio and are limited to a max GCWR of 25300 with a payload of 3000 in the best case scenario. Considering the 3600 will bring your setup to a GCWR of 27000-29000 and 4300-4800 payload i would advised advised against it.

I'd like to share my opinion and experience pulling a 3600 with the 2500 RAM.

If you want to know if you will be within specs. Stop reading... the answer is no.

Bottom line. It is not recommended but it can work if you have the right axle and put some upgrades. I would not recommend it as you will definitely be outside of the specs for the truck. But hey i have done it so who am i to judge !

You are not mentioning the truck year and what rear ratio you have. a 3.42 axle will not work. If you have a recent 2500 you are probably stuck with lower range axle so it wouldn't work without swapping the rear gear. You would need air bags for sure and tire upgrades. You will no be within specs for the truck. And it will be easier to tow when the garage is loaded, it will reduce your pin weight.

When i initially bough the 3600, i had the 2011 2500 with cummins 6.7 High Output, rear helper bags, 3.73 axle and upgraded tires that could handle 4400 pounds each. I pulled my 3600 for one summer.

Could it pull? yes. Was it safe? with upgrades it was ok but over GVWR. But what about the stickers? Nope it wasn't within stickers capacity. Was it comfortable and fun? not that much. I felt i was a bubble head on some roads. Is there a difference pulling with a DRW? A HUGE one, it is much more comfortable. No more bubble head and better control. I guess it really depends how much mileage you plan and rough the roads are. Much better control with a 3500 DRW that has a wider stance and more payload.

If you want to know if you can pull within specs with the 2500, the answer is no. Once it's loaded you will be above truck specs. But it will work if you have the right upgrades (Tires, helper bags etc...) and rear axle ratio (Not the 3.42, 3.73 ok and 4.10 fine).

Truck capacity are derived from several things, i always considered the tires being the weak links and critical components. You dont want a blow out with that thing on the highway.

With the 3600 you will be above payload for a 2500. Most 2500 have around 2300 of payload. The empty truck will weight around 3100 pounds on the rear axle. With the 3600 it will roughly weight between 7400 and 7800 depending on how you load it (4300 payload). Thats 3900 per tire and just too much for the stock tires. You would at the bare minimum need higher capacity tires. You will therefore need helper spring to level the load and upgraded tire that handle the additional load. and you will be above the sticker payload in any cases.

The GCWR will be around 27000-29000 depending on what you put in the trailer. This will be above the truck GCWR as most 2500 range 18000 - 25500.

If you are not changing the 2500, i would recommend a different trailer. If you really want the 3600, consider a 3500 DRW in a near future.

Best of luck in your selection process!

I pull a 2015 3600 with a 2009 F350 diesel SRW with airlift bags, 3:56 gears, Spartan tuner, AFE exhaust, Anderson hitch... list goes on. It is NOT within specs, but it pulls it just fine for now... I'Ve been pulling trailers all my life and do it for work as well so my comfort level is probably a little different than most... Any diesel dually would be ideal, but i don't have $70-$80,000.00 to buy one right now...we have gone to Cherokee North Carolina and this year Estes Park, Colorado... As soon as funds are available a dually it is, but till then I will use what I have. Just my two cents...

Very nice upgrade

Should have no questions about towing now! Beautiful rig, let us know how you like it when you get to the road.
