Under bed Storage Shocks Brackets

So for our new 2016 Aspen Trail 1900RB, I want to install shocks and brackets etc so the lift up under the bed will stay up while we put stuff in there. Since keystone is so cheap they did not put these there as part of the manufacturing.

Question what pound and length shocks do I need.

Go to the HatchLift site. You can figure out what you need from there, then shop around. I think I got the mine from CW on sale with a coupon. Advantage to that is if it doesn't fit right you can take it back. I had to do that with mine. The one I purchased originally was too long for my bed/compartment.

Here is a link to where I added them on my Coleman. I have an odd sized and configured compartment. IIRC I used the small on mine. I had to move the mounts a bit to get it work properly. It was too stiff. Not a hard install.

What wahoonc did is almost exactly what I've done... I'm going camping next week so I will snap some pictures. I put two of the lifts on the storage since one single lift didn't support the door and mattress up. But in adding the second, it was too much. Ended up installing velcro on the frame and wood to hold it down.

Matt... I am confused did you use 2 struts or 4 struts? I used 2 on mine. They can be adjusted so it holds the bed shut, but it isn't too hard to open. On mine it is accomplished by moving the anchor points. In my case it was way too stiff, so I moved the lower anchor points towards the front of the trailer to soften them up a bit.

The bed lifts work so well on my RV's that I have done the same thing for my home master bed. That is I built a 20" high frame with a hinged top. Gave us quite a bit of extra storage area. Worked so well my daughter wanted one so we built one for her also. Shock kit has 90 psi shocks 20" long.

I only have two struts installed... one on each side of the bed/storage... I may try moving the lower part of the struts to see if that will keep the storage closed but still allow it to be opened and keep it up when accessing the area.

There are all types of sizes and psi's so you do your best at picking the right one, but 90psi and 20" like Desert Rat is the most used size
