TT roof cleaning products.

The manufacturers of tpo and epdm rubber say that using cleaners containing petroleum distillates will damage a roof by ruining the adhesive. Also don`t use products with a citric base.

Have any of you found a good cleaner that doesn't harm the roof...pls let me know as mine needs a good cleaning.
Thanks

Re: TT roof cleaning products.

I've heard Spic N Span recommended a lot.

I keep trying to forget it's up there (except for checking the caulking).

EPDM roof inspection

Used Dawn dish detergent and a firm brush to clean the TT roof. Use a low pressure 1200 psi power washer to pre clean and rinse the roof.

Upon inspection I noticed at the side of the roof the rubber roof wasn't installed square .....there was a wrinkle right at roof edge I notice 2 small wear marks. Less than 1/2 inch in length and about 1/8 in wide each. Not right through the fabric but getting close. not sure what exactly caused the wear however I think what was happen is.. since the fabric was not square ...with the movement of the trailer the roofing fabric was wearing against the edge of what ever material the fabric is attached to. ...
Any way I patched it using eternabond tape and sealed the edges with self leveling lap sealer. I made a mistake though...I should have rounded the corners on the patch so there are no square corners to lift.
All good now....did a close inspection of all edges and around all the vents, ac, antenna....all good.

I was lazy and never washed the roof nor inspected it..but will do on a regular basis..once a year for sure but most likely will do it twice.

Something to think about.....

I always use Ivory soap. Nothing in it to harm the roof. Spic and Span is good, but I have been told not to use the liquid, it has something harmful in it.

Good comments Bill....from .the feedback and what I read was.. some liquid detergents, like you said, are harmful..but Dawn liquid was the recommend choice by far...

Coops,

I just spoke with my son-in-law who is a chemist for Dow. He said Dawn and Ivory are both good. Neither have anything that will harm an Epdm roof. He said those are also two of the cleaners that should never cause problems with your hands. Maybe we are made out of rubber.

Dicor products (Dicor Corporation | The Dicor Corporation | Official Website) supports RV rubber roofing systems with their 'Rubber Roof Cleaner', and 'Roof Gard UV Protectant'. We purchased both from our dealership's RV store, but 'Camping World' carries Dicor in-store locations and on-line. Somewhere on this site, someone posted to stay away from dish detergents.

We just returned from our first ever RV weekend in our first-ever RV we dubbed 'GW'. What a magnificent morning with dolphin and manatee joining us for morning coffee just yards away in a little known area of Central Florida's east coast's intracoastal waterway.

We had only one thing fall off GW. A 5-sided part (socket?) that is used along with a hand tool to lower and raise the stabilizer, or 'scissor jack' (four total located at each of the four corners of TT.) Dealer thinks the whole 'scissor jack' will need to be replaced for this small part that should have been welded on. Anyone know about this? We appreciate hearing from ya!
Thank you!
