Slide out question

I have one slide out on my new (to me) travel trailer and it is a manual crank type, I guess. There is a 1/2 inch hex bar sticking out of the middle of the slide at the bottom and the former owner told me he used an 18V cordless drill with a 1/2 inch nut driver to operate it. I tried that myself and figure I need to lube the slide since the drill almost overheated...

But my real question is should there be a crank that came with the rig to operate it and where can you get a replacement? I'm probably just going to get a socket hand crank and use a 1/2" socket as a backup to the drill... unless you have a better idea????

Do you have a crank for the leveling jacks? I was under the impression that they would do both. I thought all slides had some type of automatic mechanism, and the crank was for emergencies.

What is the year, make and model of of your camper.

I would be looking at a way to add a12V electric motor so you only need to use the crank or drill in an emergency.

Bal makes an add on motor for their stabilizer jacks and it has a through shaft that can be used if you lose power.

Nope, most of the slides today have no manual backup. The manufacturers provide instructions on how to move the slides if the motors fail but most of us have found these techniques rarely work. Once they fail you're going to be using a mobile tech.

It's a 2000 model M-24QB with one couch slide out. This makes me curious if there is a switch somewhere I'm not seeing for the slide. But for sure, there is a hex shaft sticking out about an inch or more from the bottom center of the slide and if you turn it, the slide operates. I can't find a lot of info on it and the owner's manual that came with it is of no use for this...

I'm headed home tonight and will try to take some pics before we leave in the morning to see our brand new granddaughter and begin the spoiling process this weekend.

I can't help you with your slide question, but I sure can give some tips on the spoiling of the grandchildren!
