kodiak 172e bunk ends question

I have a 2014 172e.
The bow ends lock in with a ball into a socket. they pop out when closed. the bows were actually too long and Kodiak had my dealer cut them so they would not get pinched in the door hinge when closed. The canvas has now torn due to the ball being pinched in the doors while closed. Has anyone else had this issue and what was the fix? They have changed the design on the new models to a hinge that permanently secures the bow to the doors. Can mine be replaced with this new design?

I have a buddy with the same trailer and the same issue. But he did not cut his rods nor does he have the torn canvas. I guess he (actually his wife) just puts up with them popping out all the time...
