Road Repair Diaries

Well, after 4 years, the last 2 of them full time, I guess it was bound to happen... an equipment failure while on the road.

Discovered the following today while doing a walk around during a fuel stop:

Drivers side...

Fortunately I was near a CW... so I drove over and asked about a quick repair. Ha! You guessed it...unable.

The campsite for the next 3 nights was only about an hour away... and since I'd already been towing it that way for how many? miles today... I continued on. Will begin calling around in the morning to remedy the issue.

At least it didn't cause any damage or an accident. I would highly recommend a wet bolt kit. The shackles are about twice as thick as those.

Ouch! I went with the MORryde wet bolt kit. The factory bushings are a plastic lining over the bolt, WTF! From what dealer told me, biggest challenge is getting old bolts out, as they often seize up.

I think the MORryde is bronze bushings, each with a zerk fitting.

Yeah, gonna order the kit and have it installed when I get a few other items worked on. But for now, gonna tow it the local shop Thursday morning when I leave here, get the broken shackle replaced, and get on my way to Tennessee.

I made contact with the guy today, and mentioned getting an entire wet bolt kit installed that morning... and while he readily agreed to get me fixed up, he kinda balked when I brought up the larger job. He's got a guy out on vacation, 4 other rigs in the shop, and Memorial Day weekend coming up. So I told him to forget the kit, and the repair will be fine. Didn't wanna push after he'd already agreed to get me in & on my way first thing Thursday morning.
