Moulding Buckling In Heat

Have a '15 Apen Trail 2810 BHS- the black lower moulding around the outside (held on with caulk and screws) is buckling in our 95+ heat here in New Mexico. Any suggestions of a glue that can be used to reapply? Yes, she's under warranty, but this will continue to be a problem.
Thanks!

I'm guessing they just left the raw ends of the trim open and just slathered caulking on the ends to cover the opening.

My trim shrank back and exposed the metal channel that holds the trim on. I ordered new trim and end caps. Cleaned all the sloppy caulking off the unit and installed the new trim. On each end of the trim I screwed on end caps. The end caps finish the trim and hold it in place.

It's a little time consuming but it's a cleaner finish to the trim. Warranty work will probably entail globing on more caulking on top of the old dirty stuff.

Trim caps were about fifty cents each, something the manufacture couldn't part with to actually finish off something that is out there for everyone to see.

Sounds good- will check it out. Would still like to Liquid Nails (or some such) along with the screwing. I do have end caps on there, so cleaning up and reapplying will do the trick.
Thank you!

sundancer,

Can you share where you got new trim and end caps?

I need to do that on ours, but don't know where to get the materials...and ain't goin' to the dealer.

LOCKTITE makes a clear heavy duty adhesive in a caulking tube. It's called fast grab and it does. Clear and white options, standard and heavy duty adhesion properties.

10 1" Universal White Molding Trim Plastic End Cap RV camper 5th Wheel Trailer | eBay These are plastic but there are aluminum ones available.
I purchased stainless steel screws at Lowe's. The trim is available at RV stores and Ebay, if you buy new be sure to match the profile because there are a few different profiles.
You will need to remove the aluminum channel for two reasons. One is to clean the caulk where the blind installers thought it humorous to smear the **** all over the coach. Two is to shorten the channel to accommodate the end caps. You want the end caps to sit on the channel just enough to pinch the trim between the two so it won't creep back on you.

I posted a thread with pix, probably last year sometime.

Mine is doing the same thing. Difference is mine is not round but more flat. I've never had molding on any RV like this. Haven't found it online yet. Nothing on eBay looks like it.

Here is a picture of what my molding looks like.

It isn't the rolled stuff it would come in 10" straight lengths I think.
It snaps over the metal rail top & bottom.

I've seen that stuff advertised somewhere, I'll give it a look tonight. I think it does just snap over the rails.

That kind of looks like it. Problem is how do I keep it from shrinking again.

Why do they make so many different sizes & styles.

That same place has end caps. Pinch the trim between the end cap and the rail and it won't so south on you again.

I like the end caps, but mind has come loose from 2 or 3 places in the middle, so I have to replace the whole side because it snaps over the Metal, and because the plastic is bend now, it won't go back as before...

Mine is kind of the same way. I wonder is this just a problem that shows up with us that live in the heat. I'm going to see if the Loctite will hold mine in place. I did order some of the metal end caps. Hope to get it done before I leave for Glacier N.P. next Friday.

Mine look like Desert Rat's...completely void of any end caps. Looks like I will be doing a little work here as well.

DesertRat,

Ours has the black moulding that snaps over the metal rail top & bottom.

Got any idea where we can get that?

Did find the black ends that can be used to secure it with a screw...something someone else posted.

Thanks,

Pirate

I think what Thom posted might be it. I haven't ordered any yet.
