Water Pump Question

Hi all,

I have a 2007 Dutchmen Denali 31RG 36' Fifth Wheel. After sanitizing and flushing out the fresh water holding tank, I have filled it with water. However, when I turn the water pump on from the control panel, it doesn't pull water to the faucets, etc. I can hear the pump turn on, but nothing happens. Is there some kind of valve I need to turn so as to have the city water connection bypassed, in effect sending the water to the pump? I'm totally confused. Please advise.

There are normally two inputs to the water pump. The output goes into the cold (blue) water line. The two inputs are: A. From the fresh water tank, and B. From a short hose designed to pull anti-freeze from a bottle. In normal operation, the valve to the tank should be open (in-line with the pipe) and the valve to the short hose should be closed (right-angle to the hose). While you are there, check connections that might be sucking air. (hand tight, or vise-grips VERY LIGHTLY) The pump should pull water up from the tank. If you feel the need to prime the system, place the antifreeze hose into a bottle of fresh water, and reverse the valves. Let the pump suck from it. Just enough to get it going. Then put the two valves back to normal, and again try to suck from the fresh tank.

Can you locate the pump? If it has a winterization valve it may be set to winterize, if so it won't pull water from the fresh water tank it would be set to pull rv antifreeze from a jug. Locate that valve and turn it, usually a quarter turn to the normal setting.

The pump may need primed...loosen the intake side plumbing hose somewhere where you can pour water in to gravity feed the pump while running it, see if it will pick up pressure. If so reattach the hose. In theory this type of pump shouldn't need primed but if it's sucking air and has not been used for some time this will work if the pump is good.

Or you may need a new pump if all else fails.
