Water Pump Issue

Lying in bed last night I hear my water pump kick on. Nothing open. Great. I have a water leak I thought. Get up and shut pump off. This morning I go out, and turn off all water to the pump thru the manifold system. Pump is still cycling. Also checked under RV, sinks etc. in case manifold was malfunctioning as well. All dry. If the pump has a bad valve or internal seal, will it cycle absent an actual water leak? Thanks.
Rusty

Did you check to see if it your fresh tank is filling up? May be that the water pump has a bad check valve and it needs to be replaced. Other than that the pump has an adjustment screw on the head to prevent what what you are experiencing.

Pressure was lost somewhere and somehow after the last flow from the pump. That would lead to the discharge side of the pump, allowing the pressure switch to activate the pump. The pressure switch rarely fails but I did have a bug get between the contacts and cause a problem.

If you are absolutely sure there isn't any water escaping then you might want to look at the switch.
I don't ever recall looking for a check valve on the demand pump so I wouldn't go looking for it. The anti-back flow is accomplished by the diaphragms and valves in the head of the pump.

Sundancer, I am referring to the valve assembly. It allows water to flow in one direction, when it fails water can flow both directions. I do not find it economical to replace just the parts of a pump when you can replace the whole thing in a couple of minutes and get back to the camp fire. Click image for larger version

I always thought that #7 was a seal to keep water out of the pressure switch.
If #7 is indeed a one way valve then it is possible there is something stuck under it holding it open. Keep in mind this is a reverse of how it's mounted to the pump so the enclosed tube like area would be the discharge.
Different pumps made by many companies so who knows. This pump was OEM on my 3800 so again, who knows.

The many pumps I have repaired never had that kind of assembly in them. Not even this one I disassembled for educational purposes.

Thanks all. I'll tear it apart when we get home from this weekend's trip. Just glad it isn't a leak!
