toilet paper

Should I buy the special rv toilet paper from the rv dealers or is regular toilet paper ok to use?

RV paper, decomposes faster... Walmart carries RV tp, as do most travel stops, and camping world.

I use Scots 1000 sheet roll that is labeled safe for septic systems.

We use 1 ply from the market. The only differance I can see between "RV" and market 1 ply, is the price.

Been using it for since day one and never had a problem.

A test to see if any brand of TP is OK for RV use is to put 3 squares in a jar, fill it half full of water, put on the lid and shake it well. If it breaks up it is OK. You'll find most brands will do this. We use our regular brand (Purex) and have for years.

When I was a newbie RVer I used the "special" stuff. Now that I'm a RV vet I use what ever I like that is on sale.............

Regular and use the minimum number of sheets to get the job done.

Use the cheap, one-ply stuff nobody likes, and work to see how little of it you can use! Save the thick, cushy stuff for gas stations, rest stops, and other people's homes! LOL

Shocked! We've had our new camper since January, and have had it on the road about 20 days. This weekend, for the first time, I hooked up a King Flush and flushed the black tank FOUR TIMES before I got all the toilet paper out! We're switching to RV-type paper right away!

That doesn't help. You have to flush the tank multiple times to get it completely clean. I have a stick thing that I hook to a hose and put down the toilet. Another thing to do is leave some water in it and drive to slosh things around to break up the "solids". I use the Geo-Method and have always had clean tanks.

I haven't changed to the Geo-Method but prior to moving the rig from place to place I will treat with one packet of the powder and between 5 to 10 gallons of water into the tank. The movement of the water while driving works well for dissolving the paper. I've also heard of people dumping a five pound sack of ice into the black tank for a similar effect.

There is a YouTube video of a demonstration showing that the ice cube trick works marginally at best. Gentleman built a plexiglass tank in the bed of his pick-up, gunked it up with typical blackwater debris, and the drove around. It barely loosened up the debris, and only when he drove so aggressively, that if you did it with your trailer you would wreck. Dawn dish soap and the water softener sounds like a plan.

It's not an issue for us to get our RV TP at WalMart. Might as well use what's recommended.

That's what we use, the WalMart stuff is nice and soft and dissolves quickly.

I've used the geo method over the last ten years, it works. Dont use any t.p. other tan RV or boat brands. It's more expensive, but less expensive than accessing the black tank to remove clogged waste gate filled with t.p. that didn't desolve.

Amazing how some topics get so many responses compared to others I thought would get alot of comments that dont.

Actually, WalMart carries two brands, Scotts and Thetford. Both about the same price. I bought some of each. Scotts looks cushier. No, I won't be doing an after-action report! LOL
