Heads up on water pump strainer cap...
After we left Colorado, we had the first opportunity in a long time to use the water pump. It ran for a long time after turning on and off the water. Water sputtered like there was a ton of air in the lines, And then the pump ran at a low rumble, never turning off until we turned it off on the panel.
I emptied the basement and removed the modesty panels and located the pump. There was some water around the pump but it was hard to tell where it was coming from. With some help from my wife topside, I discovered there was a hairline crack in the clear plastic cover of the strainer assembly on the intake side of the pump. So I guess air was getting in, and water was getting out, causing the issue.
I removed the strainer attachment, ran the inbound like direct in, and everything works like a charm. $7.60 later and I have a replacement strainer assembly headed my way. I am guessing one of the nights in Colorado saw freezing temps and some residual water in the strainer assembly froze, cracking the cap.
While down there, I poked around at the plumbing. Highly disappointed at the plumbing arrangement and the qty of electrical lines and other low voltage lines running through there. When we get to full time warm weather, I'll spend a weekend straightening out some of that and reworking the storage space. So much inefficient use of space!
