Grey Holding tank odor

Ok today got the camper out and have messed around with it. Last time I had it out we used direct water from the hose. Today I filled up the water tank and used the water pump. When I turned on the water I got a nasty smell (rotten eggs) coming form the drain. I read that there are chemicals to resolve this, is that the problem or is there something else going on?

This happens when water is left in the fresh water tank; and fresh water plumbing for a lengthy amount of time.

Ok I will do that. How do we find out how many Gallons of water the tank holds?

Re: Grey Holding tank odor

It should tell you in your manual but also there should be a sticker inside one of the cabinet doors that gives the volume capacity of all tanks. If that fails you can measure your tank capacity by using your water hose to fill a 5 gallon pail. Time how long it takes to fill the pail and then divide by five. This will give you a time per gallon delivery from your hose. Next, fill your water tank and time how long it takes. Dividing this time by your time-per-gallon time and you'll have your capacity.

One other thing to check is that your P-Traps are flushed out, the smell may be coming from old, dirty water in those.

Your problem (similar to the fresh water holding tank) could be coming from the hot water tank. I had this problem at home when I went away RV'ing for a few months and left the water in my hot water tank. Had to completely drain and refill the tank and was told that running it at a high temperature for a while would help. Problem solved.

Agree with Kevin. I drain the water heater after every trip and open the fresh water drain valve. So far, so good!
