Full hook up question

In a few weeks the wife and I will be taking out our new Kodiak to a park with a full hook up. I know I hook up the sewage pipe to the park system, but do I let the black and gray tanks fill, then flush or do I keep the valves open and have both drain into the park system directly?

Don't leave blackwater vakve open. Let it fill at least halfway then drain and flush the tank

Yes, leave grey open and black closed. Empty and flush black at the end of your trip or when full.

I leave both mine closed and dump them when they are 3/4 or more full. Food particles will build up in your grey tank and cause similar problems as the black tank, albeit much slower.

I also keep both of mine closed. I use the grey water to flush the black water through then flush a couple buckets of clean water down the toilet and the sinks and shower.

When I am leaving the park, I drain the tanks, then put about 5 gallons of water in the black tank. The water sloshing around helps to get anything that is caught up moving.

When I get to the next campground or fuel stop where there is a dump station I dump the 5 gallons.

The Good Sam RV campground directory says to keep the black tank valve open and then flush at the end of the stay with your grey tanks. My trailer manual says to do exactly what the other posts say. If you leave the black tank open during the whole stay, you may have some fun cleaning the crud out of your hose, so it's probably best to keep the black tank shut until it is 1/2 to 3/4 full.

maS dooG has that backwards I think. They must have a few repair shops under their company name. Or, a good ploy to sell extended warranty insurance.

If you leave the black valve open you get the dreaded "Brown Pyramid".

I use a SewerSolution, now sold by Valterra, to connect the trailer drain pipe to the park sewer system. The SewerSolution uses a hose connection providing an "aspirating jet" to help the black and grey tanks drain, and the jet shreds everything in the tank to "nothing".

You can turn the water jet to blast up the piping to the tanks and helps rinse the system.

If your trailer is new, as is ours, it has hose connections to a "spinner" in the black tank.

I use water to the spinner and to the SewerSolution to really clean out the tank.

Yes, I use one of the 4-way manifolds to hook the system up.

1 - connected to the trailer city water supply

1- connected to the SewerSolution

1 - connected to the black water spinner connection.

When done, there is nothing in either tank, what little water is left in the drain pipe after closing the valves and disconnecting the SewerSolution is clear water.

Just the way I do it now.

gray water drain

We just got a 1998 dutchman pup model 2104. At the rear driver side is a black drain cap I cant find a value to open and close this drain. I know that if there is gray, from shower stall and I up scrw that cap I will have the water in my lap. Is there a value in the trailer to open and closethis drain? I know the sink drain is just a hose into a holding container but the gray water has me stumped. Thanks and help so glad I found this forum.

You should send a picture. It almost sounds to me as if you do not have a sewer outlet, or valves. Just a black drain pipe and a grey drain pipe that were not connected in a Y fashion with two valves and a drain cap. Is that what I'm reading?
