When power goes out, 12V battery does not kick in

Good day folks,

I just bought a brand new deep cycle, group 27 battery for our trailer. Two days ago, we lost hydro power however, our 12V battery would not initiate the propane cycle on the fridge nor could we get any lights turned on. Voltage on batt. Is 12.58V. Any ideas why it does not switch automatically to rhe battery when the main power goes off?

As far as I know, there is no 'switch" if you lose shore or generator power, the 12 volt stuff runs off of the batteries all of the time and is charged by your converter.

Have you checked all of your 12 volt fuses?

Perhaps the battery cut off switch has been thrown.

That would be my luck, I like to start with the hardest thing possible to fix and work backwards.

Check the battery cutoff switch, then check the two large fuses on the converter, they are typically 40 amp to protect against reverse polarity, they can get blown very easily.
